This isn’t a new concept. The Gadsden Flag with the unforgettable words – Don’t Tread on Me – has been flown since the American Revolutionary War. It means different things to different folks, but when good ’ol Chris Gadsden made the flag in 1775, its meaning was clear. He, and the rest of America, was telling the British that we weren’t going to lay down and take their tyrannical BS anymore. At around the same time, Patrick Henry coined the expression Liberty or Death. Basically, the American people wanted to be free from oppression, and they were willing to die for it.
A DESIGN WITH MEANING
The Don’t Tread on Me Bracelet is crafted from rugged leather just as tough as our Forefathers, and across the band is a scale-like design representative of the rattlesnake on the Gadsden Flag. Wrapped around the bracelet are leather cords reminiscent of a ship’s rigging. This subtle detail is an homage to the USS Alfred, the first US warship to fly the Gadsden Flag and the Grand Union Flag, which was the precursor to the Stars and Stripes.
On the clasp are featured the immortal words – Don’t Tread on Me – acting as a reminder that no one, ever, should confuse your kindness for weakness. If anyone tries to step on you, the resulting bite will bring instant regret. On the inside of the bracelet is the image of a rattlesnake with the words Liberty or Death. This is your quiet, personal reminder. While a peaceful resolution to conflict is often desired, it’s not always an option.
